Prince George Idol Contest Rules

1: Sign up will be first come, first entered, to a maximum of 40 contestants. $30 contestant entrance fee is payable on sign up (email money transfers to accounting@dawnboudreau.com or cash payment at Dawn Boudreau are acceptable). If there are more than 40 entrants, anyone who signs up beyond the 40 will be held in order on a waiting list and will be contacted if someone has to drop their spot.

2: Preliminary rounds: contestants are to prepare 2 separate musical performances. Accompaniment can be either a karaoke track on a CD, a single instrument played by the performer, or a single instrument played by a separate accompanist. (instruments must be provided by the contestant, except an electric piano will be provided by Dawn Boudreau Music)

3: Four Performers will advance from each of the preliminary rounds, which will then be divided into 2 semi-final rounds. Three performers from each semi final will advance to the final. The top three finalists will be awarded prizes. *If the contestant wants to enter the same 2 songs in all three levels, this will be at their own discretion, but changing the songs is also allowed.

4: This contest will be judged by the audience (there is a $10 fee for audience members charged at the door). We encourage you to bring your friends down to vote for you and fill the room but based on the Drive By Comedy Showdown competition held in Vancouver, we will be using their system which seems to minimize the audience padding factor to a certain degree. Here’s how the judging will work.
Audience members will be asked to choose the top four performers in order of their favorites with 1 being most favored. All ballots not containing four performers will be discarded.
Four points are awarded for favorite performer, three points for second favorite performer, 2 points for third favorite and 1 point for fourth favorite.
Here’s an example: 50 audience ballots are counted. Performer1 gets 10 firsts 10 seconds 5 thirds and 25 fourths for a total of 110 points.
Performer2 gets 2 firsts 28 seconds 10 thirds and 10 fourths for a total of 122 points and the win.
A tie break will be decided by the largest number of first favorite votes. So it’s still very important to bring people to vote for you because the top four move on so if you’re Performer1 you still will move through to the next round. And it’s way more fun to play to a full room.
